Opened in 1827 by the Swiss Evangelical Reformed Church, the English Cemetery in Florence, Italy is located at Piazzale Donatello. Many Orthodox Christians and those of Reformed Churches were buried in the cemetery, but the majority of those buried here were of the Anglophone British and American communities of Florence. Notable people buried here include Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Arthur Hugh Clough, and William Holman Hunt’s wife, Fanny, who lays in a tomb Hunt designed.
