Georgia was an established colony in the 1730s, under the rule of James Oglethorpe. It was one of the last colonies of the English north American territories. It was established in a place of a defense buffer for South Carolina. The first-year settlers made a home in the colony was 1733. Taking over established native American lands, still ruled by trustees of the British crown. Slavery was first utilized for economic growth. Georgia was a big part of the revolutionary war of 1775-83, which ended in the colony joining the United States of America. This ended the ban on slavery that the Trustees had made, creating Georgia to be one of the states that heavily relied on the foundations of slavery for rice, cotton, and plantation production. Georgia joined the black belt region in this sense, known for the imprints of slavery for its economic growth.

In the Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, Georgia is mentioned a few times in reference to the travels made by the former slave. It can be seen in the statement,  "But, as soon as our vessel arrived there, my master came on board, and gave orders for us to go to St. Eustatia, and discharge our cargo there, and from thence proceed for Georgia," found on the Excerpt from Chapter 7.
