This picture shows soldiers in WWI smiling and looking happy. I chose this picture to be the first in my gallery because in Wilfred Owen poem "Dulce Et Decorum Est" he explains how outsiders would picture the war. This picture goes with the saying "Dulce Et Decorum Est" which means it is sweet and proper to die for one's country, or that is what they want people to think. They had moments where they were happy but many doesn't know that the bad things outweigh the happy moments in war. In this picture this a soldier with burns and blisters on his arms from the deadly mustard gas. It left most of their skin with blisters and horrible internal problems. One thing about this gas was that it stayed active for weeks and sometimes months. Wilfred Owen describes this in his poem as if we can visualize this sad, traumatic event. He stated " But someone still was yelling out stumbling and flounding like a man in fire or lime!" To me that line describes the man in the picture and make you think that he could have been in that situation suffering from the gas.

In this painting you can see the sad and hurt in the soldiers. Some are dead, some are seriously injured, and nobody is really just fine in the painting. They are all in line with a wet cloth over their eyes. I would assume that they are like this because the gas attack affected their vision and cause severe pain to their eyes. The guys who are lying down may be trying to get rest while they are suffering the gas attack. In Owen's poem "Dulce et Decorum est" he explains a scene to help readers vividly see how the attacks went down. He stated "Gas! Gas! Quick, boys!-an ectascy of fumbling.…

This image shows a photo of mask that was later evolved close to the end of the war. Most chemical weapons, such as the mustard gas lost its power as a good weapon by this time. It wasn't as effective because most soldiers were well trained and eqipped with these kind of masks that prevented anything from harming them. Later, they started to ban the use of deadly gas. This had an effect on WWI because the use of chemical weapins went down a whole lot.

In this photo it shows two men. One who is which a soldier who looks as if he is in need of help. The other guy looks as if he is giving the soldier money. To me, this is what Wilfred Owen's poem is mainly about. The things that go on in war will most likely affect you for the rest of your life. He stated "In all my dreams before my helpless sight he plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning." He is reffering to the gas attacks but he can see it all the time.
