This is a map pinpointing locations where Black newspapers reported on or covered aspects of the May 4, 1926, John Carter lynching in Little Rock, Arkansas. The dates range from May 6 to May 26, indicating that the lynching carried widespread impact in the news cycle; newspapers were obtained from the following websites: the African American Research Guide at the Library of Congress, North Carolina's Digital Heritage, Nebraska Newspapers, and Hoosier State Chronicles.
In order to best utilize the map, I have organized the map chronologically, with numbers corresponding to the date publication range. The first number, Little Rock, showcases the context of the lynching and related information; numbers afterward highlight locations numbered in order of date of publication. Some locations (Omaha, Nebraska) published multiple articles, and will therefore have more than one number.
As readers look through the map, please consider the following order. Newspaper titles are listed first, followed by the city and state of publication.
