Orwell Major Works

1984 is a dystopian novel that follows the life of the protagonist, Winston Smith. Smith is a low-ranking member of a political party named “the party”. In the book, Smith is frustrated with the ruler of the party, “Big Brother”, who controls the lives of everyone. The book was wildly popular, it was meant to be a statement about where totalitarianism was leading society.

Animal Farm tells the story of a group of farm animals who can talk to each other and communicate. The animals work together to rebel against their farmer to create a society where all animals are free, equal, and happy. The idea behind the novel is that power corrupts all governments, even when the setup seemed perfect. The book has become widely popular, as it is taught in school all across the country.  

This book is George Orwell’s account of his own experiences, observation, and thoughts, while he was fighting for an anti-Stalin militia during the Spanish Civil War. It is under the genre of an autobiography. This book served as part of Orwell’s fight against Fascism and Totalitarianism.

 This novel follows the theme of poverty, and how it is represented in both Paris and London. Orwell wrote this with the goal of the people who read it, the middle and upper classes would be exposed to the poverty and hard times that they don’t see in their cities. As one of his earlier books, it did not gain much popularity until after he published Animal Farm.

This book is set in Burma, while it is under the rule of the British. It came after Orwell spent time in the Indian Imperial Police. The book works as a statement about the rough conditions and corruption within the imperial government of Burma. The book has been seen more as a statement against the bigotry that is seen in the government.
