Ozzy Osbourne is a musician and TV personality from the early 2000s who was the lead singer of the rock and metal band Black Sabbath. Ozzy, as the front man was in the public eye and adopted the persona of a Gothic, almost supernatural personality who commonly dressed in all black, with black painted nails, while also wearing lots of chains, metals, and religious imagery. Ozzy's persona fed into the collective consciousness surrounding rock and roll since it became the popular genre of music in the 1980s-- this collecetive consciousness stated that rock and metal music was 'of the devil', an idea that Ozzy played into with his signiture look. While the historical Gothic wardrobe as it has appeared in modern times with lots of black, and lace, mostly resembling the mourning clothes of the Victorians. Much of what made Ozzy so famous was his outrageous style and attitude when it came to performing and gaining attention, there was one time when Ozzy was said to have bitten the head off of a bat, an idea that can be linked back to Dracula and the proccess of consuming blood as a lifeforce and thus strengthening oneself by consuimg blood. Overall, Ozzy's persona as a metal and rock star feeds directly into the choas of the Gothic genre that is so often the driving force behind the terror and fear felt in the plot. Ozzy is also well known for his partying and drinking habits-- something that is oftentimes conflated with being a rockstar but the implications of relying on substances can be traced back to the Gothic genre, or at least the anxieties around substances can since substances can induce a state of deracination, or confusion that messes with the mind. Therefore, Ozzy represents an interesting amalgomation of Gothic tropes, from mannerisms to fashion and even to public persona.
