Tampa is a city in Florida located on Tampa Bay on the western side of the Florida peninsula. Fort Brooke was established in 1824 shortly after the United States acquired Florida from Spain. The city was a frontier outpost for a long time. Tampa has long been influenced by the large Cuban population in the area and the many cigar factories, many of which were located in famed Ybor City. Tampa is considered the lightning capital of the United States, as there are more lightning strikes per year here than anywhere else in the country. The Tampa Bay area is known for its beautiful beaches, three major sports teams, two aquariums, large air force base, and really hot weather. We also have a yearly pirate festival where a "Pirate flotilla" arrives and demand the key to the city, called the Gasparilla Invasion.
