Twilight (Book 2005) (Film 2008)

Description:

Twilight is a supernatural romance book series turned fil adaptation written initially by Stephanie Meyer, and produced for film by Summit Entertainment. In twilight the premise centers around a regular girl named Bella who moves to northern Washington state to live with her father and when she goes to the new high school she realizes that the coolest kids in the school are all a little odd, but it's hard to tell what exactly is wrong with them. Eventually she starts to realize that the Cullen's don't come to school when the sun is out and its not overcast, which piques her interest and prompts her to start doing some research on supernatural creatues and if they are real or not. one day a car spins out in the parking lot and is going to hit Bella until Edward Cullen steps in a uses his super strength to stop the car and save Bella's life because he had fallen for Bella while they were lab partners in class. Eventually Bella and Edward have a whirlwind romance in which Edward reveals him and his entire family are vampires, but they are vegetarian vampires in the sense that they do not drink human blood, only animal blood.

Twilight functions as a Gothic afterlife since it is a direct reiteration of Vampires and their supernatural orgins, and abilities like those we are introduced to in Dracula. We are also introduced to other supernatural creatures like the Wearwolf, represented by Jacob black and his family. Essentially what this movie does is create a romance surronded by Vampires, and Warewolves. After several books were published the main climax came when Edward decided to turn Bella into a vampire in order to save her life after she gave birth to a vampire-human child. The insertion of supernatural creatures like Vampires into the domestic sphere of the family and home is a representation of the classic Gothic motif of the return of the repressed and the presence of the past, becuase similarly to Dracula the Cullens live seemingly forever and do not experience time the same way as humans.
