    • Chihuahua city is important in Blood Meridian as the main cast of characters comes here twice, both instances do not look positive for the kid. The first instance (detailed in the quote) shows the kid get arrested by Mexican authorities for taking part in a filibuster. It is said it took days of travel on horseback to get to Chihuahua city so i think a map of the city along with the surrounding desert as you could compare how much of the city is still there/how much it has grown over time. Not to mention, being able to map out a bustling city at the time like Chihuahua would be very insightful in visualizing/learning about what the cities were like back then. Did people live in raggedy houses or tenement like apartments? Where did they go to eat? These types of questions can be answered by mapping out the area.

    • A map out of San Antonio, Texas (also known as Bexar in Blood Meridian) would be intriguing as we could almost differentiate between where the average citizen/traveler would go (the city itself) and where the criminals and cowboys would go (the caves and other caverns on the outskirts of the city). On top of that, I am curious to see how much of the culture and history of San Antonio is still present compared to what the city was like during the wild west time period in America.
    • Quote: “He came upon Bexar in the evening of the fourth day and he sat the tattered mule on a low rise and looked down at the town, the quiet adobe houses, the line of green oaks and cottonwoods that marked the course of the river, the plaza filled with wagons with their osnaburg covers and the whitewashed public buildings and the Moorish churchdome rising from the...

    • Here in Blood Meridian, the child moves to New Orleans after running away. The way the setting is described sound unpleasant, unruly, and violent to say the least. This couldn’t have been a good influence on a young and impressionable child who already has been exposed to much pain and heartache. New Orleans already has a rich history and culture and I believe being able to map out what the city looked like closer to its inception would give us insight into where some of this history originated. Although it is depicted as violent, the city is detailed as having many travelers go through it. Being able to observe travel routes to, through, and from the city on a map can allow travel historians to better understand and picture how different groups lived or migrated across the country.

    • Tennessee: In Blood Meridian, the main character is nameless and what the audience and other characters refer to him as changes as the story progresses. He is known as “the child” when the story begins, but is known as “the kid” for the majority of the story. The child was born with a difficult start to his life in Tennessee when his mother passed away at an early age and he was frequently mistreated by his father. Sooner than later, he ran away from home and entered a life of getting by through crime. What would make his hometown, which is not named, interesting to map out would be to see what his home was like and see if this environment influenced his behavior throughout his life. I say this because the little description we are given about his home is written in a very dark and negative tone. To see where his house was and what...

Wickham seduces the younger Bennet daughter, Lydia,  and runs away with her away from Brighton as- where it is mentioned multiple times in the novel beforehand that the military encampment near Hertfordshire is, and where Lydia had spent time visiting.

'"I have just had a letter from Jane, with such dreadful news. It cannot be concealed from any one. My youngest sister has left all her friends—has eloped; has thrown herself into the power of—of Mr. Wickham. They are gone off together from Brighton. You know him too well to doubt the rest. She has no money, no connections, nothing that can tempt him to—she is lost for ever.'"

The Bingleys return to London for some time after acquiring Netherfield Park, as a result of Darcy working behind the scenes to keep Mr.Bingley and Jane apart. London is much more metropolitan than Hertfordshire, and is seen as a higher status place to have a residency. Jane eventually follows and stays with family.

“ ‘When my brother left us yesterday, he imagined that the business which took him to London might be concluded in three or four days; but as we are certain it cannot be so, and at the same time convinced that when Charles gets to town he will be in no hurry to leave it again, we have determined on following him thither, that he may not be obliged to spend his vacant hours in a comfortless hotel. Many of my acquaintance are already there for the winter: I wish I could hear that you, my dearest friend, had any intention of making one in the crowd, but of that I despair. I sincerely hope your Christmas in Hertfordshire may abound in the gaieties...

Mr. Darcy's fictional (but expansive) Pemberley estate is set in the real-life Derbyshire county.  Lizzy inadvertently visits him at his home with her aunt and uncle midway through the novel while trying to sightsee in the area.

"'About a month,' said Elizabeth; and then, unwilling to let the subject drop, added, 'he is a man of very large property in Derbyshire, I understand.'
'Yes,' replied Wickham; 'his estate there is a noble one. A clear ten thousand per annum. You could not have met with a person more capable of giving you certain information on that head than myself—for I have been connected with his family, in a particular manner, from my infancy.”'

In Austen's Pride and Prejudice, the Bennets live in the real live, then-rural,  county of Hertfordshire on their imaginary estate of Longbourn. Mr.Bingley's equally fictional Netherfield Park is also here.

"Upon my word I say no more here than I might say in any house in the neighbourhood, except Netherfield. He is not at all liked in Hertfordshire. Every body is disgusted with his pride. You will not find him more favourably spoken of by any one.”

"Mary had heard herself mentioned to Miss Bingley as the most accomplished girl in the neighbourhood; and Catherine and Lydia had been fortunate enough to be never without partners, which was all that they had yet learnt to care for at a ball. They returned, therefore, in good spirits to Longbourn, the village where they lived, and of which they were the principal inhabitants. They found Mr. Bennet still up."
