The Fisherman and His Soul

Oscar Wilde's "The Fisherman and His Soul" was published in his collection The House of Pomegranates (1891). You can read the story, annotated by General Education students at the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, here at COVE Studio.

Our edition also includes a selection of color prints produced by the Ukrainian artist Theodore Nadejen for his 1929 book The Fisherman and His Soul and Other Stories, which paired several of Wilde's 'fairy tales' with Nadejen's original illustrations and ornaments. A critical edition but not a strictly historicist work, our edition is a record of undergraduate student first impressions of Wilde's complex, culturally significant, and intertextual story and Nadejen's reimagining of it.
