Interstellar is a film directed by Christopher Nolan.
Interstellar is about Earth’s last chance to find a habitable planet before before the human race disappears as a result of lack of resources. The film’s protagonist is Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), a former NASA pilot who is responsible for conducting a mission through a wormhole to find a habitable planet in another galaxy.
The film is based on the scientific theories and script treatment of renowned theoretical physicist, Kip Thorne and screenwriter Jonathan Nolan.
Within the film there are two plans:
- Plan A involves Cooper transmitting quantum data back to Earth in order to develop a gravitational propulsion theory that will allow spacecrafts to carry people off Earth into the other galaxy.
- Plan B involves Cooper’s crew finding the remaining Lazarus crew and establishing a colony on another world.
The Lazarus missions were launched by NASA, ten years before Cooper's departure from Earth. There were twelve landing pods sent to twelve potentially habitable planets which could sustain human life. It is presumed that none of the astronauts that disembarked on the missions survived.

Wormhole was first identified by the LIGO facility (California)An Einstein-Rosen bridge, colloquially known as a wormhole, is a distortion of spacetime that in theory may allow near-instantaneous transit to anywhere in the universe. It takes its name from physicists Albert Einstein and Nathan Rosen, who are credited with developing the theory of wormholes. In the film, A wormhole represents the key to humankind's survival by enabling crews of the Lazarus Project and later the Endurance to travel light years away to a system of planets around Gargantua in another galaxy containing potentially habitable worlds. |

The blight beginsThe Blight is a plague that has devastated almost all the remaining food sources on Earth. By the time Interstellar occurs, the last crops of okra are dying off, leaving just corn as the only viable food source for humanity. This wiil be the main reason why humanity is forced to leave their own planet and the Endurance spaceship was created. |

NASA secret launchesNASA, in secret, launches 12 missions through the wormhole. Each landing pod had sufficient life support for two years, but with hypersleep chambers (which are used to slow the aging process of the human body), the astronauts could extend their observations over a decade or more. Their mission was to assess their world and send reports back to Earth via a binary pings on an annual basis, giving a clue of which planet would be suitable for human colonization. When introduced to the mission, Cooper confirms that it would be impossible to rescue all twelve astronauts due to NASA's limited resources. Of the twelve astronauts sent, three potentially habitable worlds were found: Miller's planet (a water world), Edmunds' planet (a desert world) and Mann's planet (an ice world). |

Present day in the film’s first hourThe world continues to suffer from the blight, catastrophic famine and immense dust storms. Cooper is asked to rejoin NASA, and he boards Endurance (a space exploration vehicle), launched towards Saturn (Hypersleep for 2 years to Saturn).

The Endurance reaches the wormholeThe Endurance travels through the wormhole exiting on a system in orbit of Gargantua: it is a very massive, rapidly spinning black hole. It is orbited by the planets Miller and Mann. A black hole is a region of spacetime where gravity is so strong that nothing, light included, can escape from it. Cooper decided to land on Miller's planet, also called the water world. In this planet every hour will be seven years to the outside world due to time dilation. They will spend 3 hours (on the planet) but the rescue mission on the water world fails due to large waves.

Cooper returns to EnduranceWhen he returns to Endurance he finds out that 23 years had passed since he left for Miller's planet. Cooper catches up on a cache of 23 years worth of video messages from the earth. According to many fans of the film, this scene was one of the most touching scenes in cinema. Cooper begins slingshot around Gargantua. At the same time on earth, Murph and Professor Brand works with NASA. Professor Brand confesses that his gravity equation could not be solved, leaving no possibility to save people on Earth. Even if Murph feels devastated and betrayed by this statement, she remains determined to solve Brand's equation. |

A series of events- Murph solves the gravity equation, which allows the stations to be launched from earth’s surface and into space. Cooper Station (named after Murph) is launched from Earth and placed in orbit of various planets in-system. Missions are being prepared to rescue surviving Lazarus astronauts and to explore other star systems through the wormhole.
- Cooper fall into the black hole. TARS (one of four former U.S. Marine Corps tactical robots) studies the singularity of quantum data and collects them. Cooper enters the Tesseract's 5th dimensional space to relay the data to Murph. - In 2154 Murph enters hypersleep at a station orbiting Earth. Two years later Cooper was found and recovered near Saturn. Murph is awoken and she arrives at Cooper Station two weeks later when she finally meets his father. |

Plan A has succeededDuring the 2160s people living in Cooper Station travel across the wormhole to Edmunds' planet. First colony is established. Other stations follow suit. In fact years later Edmunds colony supports a population of thousands due to Plan A. |
