Cleveland Street is a street in the Fitzrovia district in the western part of Central London. From 1778 until 2005, it was the site of the Cleveland Street Workhouse which inspired Charles Dickens, who lived on the street twice, to write Oliver Twist (1837–39). 19 Cleveland Street (now demolished) was the site of the Cleveland Street Scandal of 1889 when the police discovered the address to house a brothel that used young boys as sex workers.
