New York, The New York Mirror publishing house

In January, 1845, The New York Mirror published what would go on to be one of Edgar Allen Poe's most famous works, 'The Raven'. The poem itself quickly gained popularity and was what put Poe on the map as one of the great writers of his time. The Raven retains its popularity today in both pop culture and in literature, and is one of the first things that comes to mind when Poe is mentioned. It has since been reimagined in various media, such as film, comic/graphic novel, and different styles of illustration. The Raven's themes center around death, loss, and depression, as the narrator explores his future and immediate present after the death of his wife Lenore.
