Waziristan is a mountainous region located across the border between northwestern Pakistan and eastern Afghanistan. In 1894, the British entered the region, which had previously been controlled by the Afghan Empire, and divided it into North Waziristan and South Waziristan. It was the site of the Waziristan Revolt of 1919–20 against the British Indian Army.
