Alice band (p. 60 Gemma Hardy)
An Alice band is a type of horseshoe-shaped hair accessory made of a flexible material designed to fit over the head and hold long hair away from the face. It is said to have originated in the period around 1871, after the publication of Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass. In the illustrations for the book, Alice is shown wearing one. In the US, they are better known as hairbands or headbands. (en.m.wikipedia.org)
