Annan is a Royal Burgh in Scotland with a population of roughly 10,000 people. During the times that the Romans were invading Scotland, the Bruce family, who were the Lords of Annandale, played an active role in fighting for Scottish independence. This is obviously from where Annan gets its name. Annan origanally started as a market town with a focus on using its waterpower for mill industries such as grain. In the nineteeth century, the ports of Annan are linked to those of Canada and the United States, so shipbuilding was the town's biggest industry. Now, the majority of the population works in the food-processing industry.
"The town of Annan made me think of France and Germany; many of the houses large and gloomy, the size of them outrunning the comforts."
