Blue Ridge, Appalachian Mountains

The Appalachian Mountains are a mountain range in North America that span 2000 miles from the Southeastern United States to the Canadian provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador. The mountain range contains various natural resources that have economic value and has therefore played a large role in the development of the continent. The Appalachian Mountains are mentioned in the poem "Eighteen Hundred and Eleven" by Anna Letitia Barbauld.

"Wide spreads thy race from Ganges to the pole,
O'er half the western world thy accents roll:
Nations beyond the Apalachian hills
Thy hand has planted and thy spirit fills"

The "Apalachian hills" are used to represent North America as a whole in the poem.
