Spanish Town, Jamaica, is significant to Wide Sargasso Sea because this is where Antoinette lives with her Aunt Cora after Colibri burns. Living here, Antoinette feels some safety and security. Antoinette is saddened by the threatening half-caste kids and English people who spread rumors about her mother's madness. In Spanish town, Antoinette's mother marries Mr. Mason and shorty after, Antoinette get married in an arranged marriage by Mr. Mason's son. Antoinette does not want to marry this strange, young man, Antionette's Aunt Cora and Christophine seem to believe he is only after her inheritance. This location illustrates property, marriage and inheritance simply because this is where Antoinette and her mom get married and following the weddings, the feelings of the men chasing their inheritance as well. The marriages and inheritance tie into this scene distinctly based off of the property and the way everyone here is money hunger during this time as well. Overall, mapping this location on COVE shows how the history behind this location complicates and deepens the plot. In doing this, this shows the readers the strength taking place at this location in showing the development of commitment shown through marriage during living here.
