Banwen is a small village in Wales located in the North Port Talbot County borough. It is located in a valley, providing a good view of the southern slopes of nearby mountains. It consists of only a single road. In ancient times the town was a mining town for copper, iron, and tin. It is probably most famous for being considered the birthplace of Saint Patrick according to several historical experts.

It is mentioned once in the story Real Wales in which it is said “Y Fro Efallai where desire and actuality mix, where reality comes in like a short wave signal - Myddfai, Banwen, Merthyr, Pontcanna, Aber out of term time. Trefdraeth when the sun shines. Who is to say that his Wales is any better than mine? Or that mine is more real?”. This quote list several places in Wales and questions the idea that any one place is more a part of Wales than another.
