Blackfriars

Blackfriars is the site of a former priory located in the City of (London, England). Its name refers to the black cappa worn by Dominican friars. The priory was established in that location in the 14th century and was dissolved in 1538 as part of the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII. Blackfriars may also refer to the amenities in the area, including: Blackfriars station, a railway station and early Tube station first opened in 1864; Blackfriars Road; and Blackfriars Bridge and railway bridge.
