Brompton is an area of London and currently a ward in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in (London, England). Until the mid-nineteenth century, it was a village composed of a collection of market gardens. At the mid-century, the area experienced growth with the addition of museums, colleges, and railways, and the name of Brompton was subsumed and eclipsed by the naming of railway stations after other areas, such as South Kensington and Knightsbridge.
