Setting 4: After traveling to several different camps, Buchenwald becomes the last one. Eliezer's father falls ill here and is not given food or treatment. There he is placed in the invalid bunk where he is beaten by the other invalids when Eliezer is not around. By this point in the story, both Eliezer and his father are weak but Eliezer is still well enough to work. Ultimately, Eliezer's father is beaten by an SS officer right beneath Eliezer's bunk. After about 2 months, the camp is liberated by an underground resistance movement by the U.S.
