Calabria is a region in southern Italy formed of a peninsula between the Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas. The region appears as the toe of Italy’s iconic “boot” shape. It is separated from Silicy by the Strait of Messina. Calabria was the site of a series of peasant uprisings in 1848. Related BRANCH articles: Alison Chapman, "On Il Risorgimento."
