This will focus on the Caribbean Sea, mentioned in Jean Rhys's, "Voyage in the Dark". The Caribbean Sea is in the Atlantic Ocean and in the Western Hemisphere. It has borders of Mexico, Cuba, South America, and Central America. During the 1930s, there were labour rebellions in the British Caribbean region colonies(Voyage in the Dark was published in 1934). Today, the Carribean Sea is known for the second largest barrier reef in the world, beautiful waters, oil, fishing, and is a hotspot for tourism.

"It can't be 'legions'. 'Oceans', perhaps. 'Oceans away from despair.' But it's the sea, I thought. The Caribbean Sea"-para 3 from Part II: Chapter 1.
