In chapter 24, Jamaica is a significant place because it was brought up in Jane and Rochester conversation about where he would be taking Jane after the wedding. Rochester says “Shall I travel--and with you sir? You shall sojourn at Paris, Rome, and Naples: at Florence, Venice, and Vienna: all the ground I have wandered over shall be retrodden by you: wherever I stamped my hoof, your sylph’s foot shall step also.” He was making a promise that jane will have a life with new adventures, touring and site seeing the world, and materialistic things. During this quote it shows how Rochester has the power because he is the one making plans for him and Jane without asking if that's what she wants. This becomes important for Jane because when jane got with Rochester, she began to value her independence, and she don't want to follow up somebody else’s decisions.

Jamaica becomes a significant place in chapter 27 also Rochester is showing how he has spent many years traveling to and from and living a different life than Jane has. “For ten long years I roved about, living first in one capital, then another: sometimes at in St Petersburg; oftener at Paris; occasionally at Rome, Naples, and Florence. Rochester is saying that he has already been to St. Petersburg, Paris, Rome, Naples, and Florence meaning that he got more traveling experience then Jane does. I feel like being that he has the chance to travel it makes him seem like he’s unstratified because even after doing all that traveling, he doesn’t seem happy with his life. I feel like this help explain why he is so connected to jane because jane is like the black sheep compared to everyone else. What makes her different is the people she has encountered and the experiences she has had. This quote show that the differences with Jane’s life and Rochester life is his life if fully of the riches and gold while jane’s life is limited.

Being able to place Florence on the map illustrates how small Jane’s world is vs. Rochester’s world, which is so big. Florence is one of the places that Rochester traveled to which shows how he was able to travel and experience the world more than Jane has. It also models the wealth and freedom of Rochester. With mapping Florence, the novel shows the difference of Rochester's experienced life and Jane’s life being limited. Florence becomes important because it allows the reader to understand the differences and experiences that both Jane and Rochester both bring to their relationship.
