Chamonix-Mont Blanc is a small village/commune in France, though the mountains rest at the junction of France, Italy, and Switzerland. These beautiful – often snowy – mountains are the highest in Western Europe and are known for often provoking the feeling of sublimity. In Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, these mountains are where the creature goes when he feels the most abandoned by Victor and to seclude himself from a society that persecutes him for his appearance.
