Climbing the Tower

Description:

This photo is taken from the text The Little Lame Prince by Miss Mulock (Pseudonym of Maria Dinah Craik). Specifically, this image is looking at the man who took the prince and the female criminal up into the tower. In the text his man is described as “a man also big and equally black, carrying before him on the saddle a woman and a child.” As the text states the man “mounted to the top of the tower, and slugged from it a short chair, in which the woman and the child placed themselves and were drawn up, never to come down again as long as they lived.” and this photo shows the man doing just that.
