The artwork accompanying Christina Rossetti's "Goblin Market and Other Poems" was crafted by her brother Dante Gabriel Rossetti. He worked in collaboration with his sister in the development of the second edition of "Goblin Market", he contributed more to the artistic and title areas of Christina's work. Dante was a part of the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood, which was a group of artists who emphasized artwork from the late medieval era up until Raphael.
The selected image demonstrates Dante's inspiration from the Pre-Raphaelite era. On the left piece, the grotesque goblin creatures crowd the setting around one of the sisters and its suffocating atmosphere is portrayed through his art style. He also attempts to emulate the poem's imagery within the artwork as Laura gives up a 'golden curl' for the goblins' fruits. For the right piece, the pre-raphaelite woman is portrayed in the image of the two sisters. This design choice causes some to interpret the "Goblin Market" in a sensual manner between the two sisters as they hold each other closely.
