This is an important event to happen to Dickens because no one knows what kind of influence Catherine may have or may not of had on Dickens. In the article I have listed, it states in order how Charles and Catherines marriage went. One would assume that they were happy for the longest time in the beginning years. They happily had 10 kids together, where they never stopped loving one another. As well as having kids together, they were also traveling everywhere together. They ventured off to Scotland, as well as America together making the memories of their lifetime. On the outside, they had their lives together as far as the public eye could see. But in reality, they were growing apart. In 1858, Charles and Catherine were legally separated after Catherine mistakenly received a gift from Charles that was meant to go to Ellen, who would soon be his new girlfriend until he passes away. All of this goes to say that this is important because without having Dickens go through what he went through in life, he might have never produced the novels he did in the way he wrote them. Everything could have been different. You become who you surround yourself with and I think that this shows a little bit in Dickens writings. You can tell which novels he wrote when he was with Catherine versus the ones he wrote when he was with Ellen and I think that speaks a lot for itself.
