Elizabeth Barret Browning Publishes "The Cry of the Children"

The Poem was first published in August 1843 by Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine. The poem is a protest against the rampant exploitation of child labor in the manufacturing and mining industries and proved to be highly influential in the regulation against child labor that was soon put into effect.
