Richard arrives in Exeter with likely his greatest and largest group thus far. He hopes it will be an easy victory and a turning point for him, but he ends of being met with resistance and is ultimately blocked.

"He arrived before Exeter at the head of seven thousand men. All the discontented in Cornwall and Devonshire joined him" (384).

"The citizens [of Exeter], made desperate, fearful of the ravages of this untamed multitude might commit, were true to themselves; they resisted fire by fire, keeping up a firce blaze within, till with piles of brick and rubbish they had blocked the passage. Richard saw his last hope fail" (384).

Description: While one may note this place is located more inland than some of Richard's other places of attack. It still has fairly close access to the water, which is Richard's primal mode of travel.
