Florence is the beautiful capital city of Italy’s Tuscany region, home to many famous art pieces and galleries. Sculptures such as Michelangelo’s “David” and paintings such as Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” can be found within its museums and galleries. It is known as one of the cities that were at the center of the Renaissance.

In the novel "The Romance of a Shop", Florence is where Fanny was going to visit a friend after all of her sisters had been married off or passed away; however, her plans were interrupted by the dramatic return of a certain Lord Watergate.

“She had arranged, on the strength of this, to visit a friend in Florence, for some months; after that period she would in all probability take part with Lucy in the photography business” (Chapter 24)
