Giovanni Aldini was the nephew of famous physician Luigi Galvani (where we get the term Galvanize) and did a public experiment in 1803 involving placing two diodes into a human and watching the electricity stimulate the muscles into contracting. This experiment is what inspired the story of Frankenstein.
