Harley Street was noted as a location for one of the events Frank was attending. As Phyllis was looking out the window, she said, “‘There is a light in Frank Jermyn's window—the top one,’ she cried; ‘I suppose he is dressing. He told me he had an early dance in Harley Street. I wish I were going to a dance.’” This quote can be found in Chapter VIII, before the romance between Lucy and Frank was so concrete.
Harley Street was named after Edward Harley who began the development of a piece of land on the banks of the river Tyburn. Around the 1860s and 70s, this street attracted professionals, including a substantial amount of doctors, and was largley a residential area of the city. The northern end of Harley Street was home to more Georgian architecture while the southern portion saw more a more Victorian and Edwardian style with Tudor influences.
