Hartzell Secondary School

Tsitsi upon returning to Zimbabwe was placed in a mission school in Mutare before eventually being transferred to Hartzell Secondary School, a private American school. However, as noted by Cora, "Dangarembga notes that she didn’t learn "much about anything indigenous at all" in these schools (190)." (Paragraph 3). This is a moment that also seems to appear in Nervous Condition when Tambu is also seen not learning much about her people and is instead having to learn more about English history, language and the values that they hold more important.

I believe this moment is what spark that flame for wanting to understand more of the people of Zimbabwe, understand the culture and the literature. These moments are what makes Nervous Condition less of a work of just calling attention to colonization and the mistreatment of women, but also show the depravity of the native culture and understanding
