Amazonian warriors' headgear were usually tall pointed helmets, in some cases with hanging side pieces. These werre often referred to as Phrygian caps. This style of cap mutated to a soft conical cap with the apex bent over. They became very popular in the French Revolution and came to signify freedom and the pursuit of liberty. Was Bronte sending us a subliminal message regarding the status of women's rights in the Voctorian Age?
