Lake Geneva is a large and beautiful lake nesteled in the corner of Switzerland and France. Many Romantics sought respite or Inspriration on the lake and many tourists still visit it to this day.
Mary Shelley was one of the Romantics that took a trip to Lake Geneva. She, with her husband Percy, her sister Clarie and Lord Byron travlled to Switseland and stayed in a Lake house. While there they decided to have a writing contest, particularly dark stories. Mary immediately began writing "Frankenstein", and while it wasn't completed there, its framework was written.
Lake Geneva must have been a place of solace for Shelley as the main character of "Frankenstein", Victor, was born and raised on the banks of the lake in Geneva. In the story Victor reminicesess of his childhood along the shores of the lake with his family and friends. A time of warmth and affection in comparison to Mont Blanc where Vicort has his first confrontation with his creature. It is a stark contrast between the calm lake and the cold mountain.
Lake Geneva is the largest Alpine lake in all of Europe and is home to six smaller islands within its expanse. It is a beautiful place and the largest town surrounding, Geneva, brings in a lot of toruism for Yacht racing on the lake.
