A fictitious town in which our hero, Daniel Deronda, first meets the heroine, Gwendolen Harleth, in what nowadays would probably be called a casino. Interestingly enough, gambling is still somewhat legal in germany albeit not particularly encouraged. Gambling debts aren't enforcible in the country nowadays, but many casinos are nonetheless still open to the public. The specific game they're playing is roulette, ie - the wheel that spins, well, Gwendolen is playing at any rate.
Additionally, regarding the semi-Zionist themes of the novel, Judaism has a long history in connection to Germany since at least the year 321 wherein Emperor Constantine first permitted the jewish people of Cologne(a very much real city in germany) to hold political office. Most people think of German Jews and the holocaust and justly so, but there's a long and complicated history that persists even to this day.
(Please note that the above picture is of Cologne Germany because, again, Leubronn does not exist).
