This is a place where "fallen women" would be kept, taught the Christian belief system, and then moved to another part of the world for the intent to aid them in their recovery. Known Victorian authors such as: Charles Dickens and Christina Rossetti where known to have volunteered here. A pamphlet was even written with the names of these women who had "fallen".
