Mantel received her first Booker Prize, an annual award given to the author of the best novel published in England or Ireland, in 2009 for her book, Wolf Hall. The Booker Prize is one of the highest awards an author can receive in England and marks an author's literary quality. Mantel went on to win the Booker Prize for a second time in 2012 for her Wolf Hall sequel, Bring Up the Bodies.
