This map is a work-in-progress showing the locations at which Ethel Kate Dickens (b. 1864 - d. 1936) lived and worked. It is part of an ongoing biographical project to recover, understand, and appreciate the complexities of Ethel's many lives: the intellectual and interpretive labor of Dickens as a literary typist, her significance as a descendant of the author living in the spotlight of inherited celebrity status, and the nuances of her personal relationships -- particularly with her long-time "home-mate" Bertha Fanny Bradley.
Please note: Because of changes in numbering and street names in the 20th century, the map overlay does not always accurately reflect where, precisely, Ethel's various offices or residences would have been in relation to the landmarks on the map itself, or to one another as I have mapped them. I have altered the georeferences of some of these mapped sites to ensure a more accurate rendering of her actual locations when viewing them together on the map.
