Mashhad (also spelled Mashad or Meshad), in a city in Iran, and the capital of Razavi Khorasan Province in the northeast. It is named after the shrine of Imam Reza, who was buried in a village in Khorasan which was later named Mashhad. It is the hometown of significant Iranian literary figures such as the post Mehdi Akhavan-Sales and singer and composer Mohammed-Reza Shajarian.
