Mitchelstown, Ireland hosts the Mitchelstown castle, which was the home of the Earl of Kingston. It is situated in County Cork, which is now the Republic of Ireland. Mary spent a year in Mitchelstown after being employed as a governess for the Earl's children. She did not get along very well with their mother but the children say that she left a lasting impression, despite only spending a year with them. Her one and only children's book, Origin Stories from Real Life, was published in 1788 after her stint teaching the children but she soon discovered that that was not the life she wanted for herself. By 1786, she had moved back to London.
