Montanvert is the peak Victor resolves to climb to clear his head at the beginning of volume two, chapter two. It is when Victor crosses the glacier to the opposite side that the monster arrives to face him and entreat him to listen to his story.
As this is the old name of a part of the Mer de Glace glaciers, there is not much information on it. However, the fact that Percy Shelley also describes it in some of his writings attests to the pair's shared awe of the natural structure.
Montanvert serves as another example of the isolation Victor often seeks for himself, especially in volume three, as he and the monster continue to meet in cold, remote locations.
