After leaving Eton prep Orwell took and passed an entrance exam to join the Indian Imperial Police. This was a police force that was put in place to watch over British colonies that were not attached to England. Orwell was sent to Burma or modern-day Myanmar, an experience that changed his life. Five years later, in 1927, Orwell resigned from the police due to poor health. He moved back to England after his resignation.
