Oxford Castle and Prison Tower

Type: Gallery Image | Not Vetted

This is an image of the tower at the Oxford Castle and Prison from the Victorian period. During the Victorian era, between 1780 and 1850, crime rates were rising and the prison population was growing. This prison was split into five key hard labour punishments for the prisoners. This tower, coming directly from the Victorian era, connects to the theme of isolation in The Little Lame Prince. The prisoners, like Prince Dolor, were isolated from the rest of civilization.
