The Pilgrimage to Sacré Coeur

Type: Gallery Image | Not Vetted

Louis Vivin was a French Painter who was well known for painting pieces regarding the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The cathedral is the largest aspect of the painting and points to the significance of Sacré Coeur. This painting shows the steps leading up to the cathedral. Moreover, the steps are symbolic of the pilgrimage back to the Sacré Heart of Jesus. The journey back to the heart of Jesus is the meaning behind the cathedral. The central aspect is not being the steps, but the Sacré Coeur itself. This painting allows the viewer to see that Sacré Coeur is an invitation, for the people of Paris, to pilgrimage back to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Through walking up the steps to the cathedral would serve to remind the people of their personal priliegame to Jesus (Jonas 484).
