I will be focusing on Charlotte Bronte's creation of the red room in Jane Eyre. The red room in a staple in Jane Eyre, and we can see the many implications that it brings to the life of Charlotte Brontes mystery and involvement in the supernatural elements that surrounded her while growing up. We will see how the influence of the supernatural plays a vital role in her development of her characters in Jane Eyre, and how other authors have used her as a baseline to entrance readers with ideas of the supernatural.
The first image depicts Jane in the 'red room':
When looking at this image, we can see the supernatural elements shining through the picture. This is a quite traumatizing moment for Jane, as she is locked away in this room away from everyone and eveyrthing she loves. She is without books, and is confined to solitude. Jane claims to have seen supernatural elements around her, such as entities that loom over her as she is lcoked away. This picture displays the battle with psyche, and how Jane as a young girl represents many of the battles that Charlotte herself faced during her childhood. When doing research on Charlotte it is imperative to understand her belief in the supernatural.
