Even if we don't know the exact location, the town of Renzo and Lucia is located not far from Lecco, on the shores of the southern branch of Lake Como.

It is described as a small peasant community, whose inhabitants are very united and ready to help each other. We know it was struck by the plague of 1630 and that Renzo's house is in the centre, while Lucia's is a little farther.
