Sweden, Norway, and Denmark are often referred to as Scandinavia. Mary Wollstonecraft spent time in all three countries when she was desperately trying to win back Gilbert Imlay after he abandoned her and his child, Fanny. She was on the hunt for a stolen treasure ship, hoping that this would prove something to Imlay. Nothing came of this venture, both romantically and in the sense of treasure. Wollstonecraft ended up letting go of Imlay after many more rejections, eventually publishing the letters they exchanged (Letters Written During a Short Residence in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark), among other letters.
